The June tournament was a draw fished on Santee out of Black’s Fish Camp. We had 19 members fishing. Aside from the less than mediocre fishing, we had one up and one down for this tournament. They were the heat and the fish were in the grand funk mode. We started out hot and miserable and ended up that way. Water temps at blast off were in the early 80s. This month’s catch depicted all of the above. Fishing----- We had no limits. If you caught three fish, you could have made the BASS Masters Classic. It appears all were struggling to find a 12-inch fish. Almost half the field zeroed and seven of us managed just one fish. That only left three members with two fish and one member, the winner, with three fish. The results---- 1st place went to Malcolm Murdock with three fish weighing 7.34 lbs. Malcolm also had the big fish for the tournament weighing in at 5.40 lbs. 2nd place was Mark Hutson with two fish weighing in at 4.96 lbs. 3rd place was Ron Brown with two fish weighing in at 3.10 lbs. 4th place was Joey St. Jean with one fish weighing 2.92 lbs. 5th place was Mr. Terry Hauschilt with one fish weighing in at 2.62 lbs. Rounding out the top six in 6th place was Richard Branton with one fish weighing in at 2.56 lbs. There is a shaking up of the top six in the club’s year-to-date-standings as of June. June was not kind to some and moved a couple of folks up. The points and the race are tightening up at the mid year point. The race for the green jacket could be anyone of the top six guys at mid season. What a wonderful tournament! The club caught a combined 16 total bass for 19 fishermen weighing 32.28 lbs. Last month at Murray, we caught 57 fish that weighed 88.20 lbs. Guys, Murray has water and is not dropping daily. Maybe we should relocate our Bass club. If anyone was looking for Robert Litton and me after 2pm on Sunday, you could have found us in Black’s restaurant enjoying the Sunday buffet. Although no body but Robert and I wanted to weigh in at 2 vice 4, maybe next time we can eat at 2 and weigh in at 4 as a club outing. |
